How it works
Three numbers that change how you think.
Every calculator on CostXray gives you the same three outputs: your monthly cost, your annual cost, and your 10-year total adjusted for inflation. Together, they make the slow drain of everyday habits impossible to ignore.
Most people know roughly what they spend on coffee per day. Very few have ever multiplied that by 365, then by 10, then added 3% inflation per year. The result is usually surprising. That's the point.
Why 10 years?
One year of a habit feels manageable. Ten years feels real. It's long enough to show meaningful compound inflation, but short enough to be within most people's planning horizon — a career stretch, a decade of savings, a mortgage term.
Why 3% inflation?
The 10-year cost uses 3% annual inflation on top of your current spending — because the $5.50 coffee you buy today will cost closer to $7.40 in 10 years. Using flat numbers would understate the real cost.

Common questions
FAQ
What is CostXray?
CostXray is a free tool that reveals the true annual and 10-year cost of everyday spending habits — from daily coffee to car ownership, subscriptions, and more. All calculations happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers.
How does the 10-year cost calculation work?
The 10-year total applies 3% annual inflation to your current costs, reflecting how prices typically rise over time. It shows the real cumulative spend, not just 10× the annual figure.
Is CostXray free?
Yes, completely. No account, no sign-up, no data sent anywhere. All calculator inputs are processed locally in your browser.
How accurate are the results?
Default values are based on US averages from reputable sources (AAA, Bureau of Labor Statistics, consumer research reports). Every input is adjustable — enter your actual numbers for a personalised result.
